Privacy Policy
Venice Water Inform is built to collect as little as possible. This policy explains the little that is processed when you use the site, why, for how long, and what rights you have.
Last updated: 9 October 2026
1. Who is responsible
The controller within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the operator of the website Venice Water Inform at venizeanwaterinform.online (“we”, “us”). For any question about data protection, or to exercise your rights, write to info@venizeanwaterinform.online.
This policy covers the English pages at the site root and the Italian pages under /it/. It does not cover other websites that we link to.
2. The short version
- We use no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no social media plugins and no embedded content from other websites.
- We set no cookies.
- Fonts, images, the stylesheet and the script are all served from this website’s own server. Your browser does not contact any other company to display our pages.
- Our hosting provider records standard technical log data when a page is requested, for security and stable operation.
- Your answer to the cookie notice is stored in your own browser (localStorage) and is never sent to us.
- If you email us, we use your message only to deal with it.
3. Visiting the site: server log files
Whenever a page or file of this site is requested, the web server operated by our hosting provider automatically records technical information that your browser transmits. A log entry typically contains:
- the IP address of the requesting device;
- the date and time of the request;
- the page or file requested and the amount of data transferred;
- the status code, which shows whether the request succeeded;
- the referrer, meaning the address of the page you came from, if your browser sends it;
- the user agent, meaning the type and version of your browser and operating system.
Purpose. To deliver the pages to your browser, to keep the site secure (for example to detect and block attacks or abusive requests) and to find and fix technical faults. We do not use log data to produce visitor statistics or profiles, and we do not combine it with any other data.
Legal basis. Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in running a secure website that works reliably.
Retention. Log files are kept for a short period only, normally a few weeks at most, and are then deleted or anonymised. A single entry may be kept longer only if it is needed to investigate a specific security incident, and only until that incident has been dealt with.
4. What this site does not do
The site sets no cookies. It contains no analytics or statistics tools, no advertising or remarketing, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, no social media buttons, no embedded videos or maps, no comment system, no user accounts and no newsletter.
Self-hosted fonts. The typefaces used on every page, Cormorant Garamond and Nunito Sans, are stored on this website’s own server. Your browser fetches them from us, exactly as it fetches the images and the stylesheet, so no data is passed to a font provider or to any other third party.
Links to other websites. Some pages link to official sources and, on the image credits page, to Wikimedia Commons and to licence texts. Nothing is transmitted to those sites unless you follow a link. Once you do, their own privacy policies apply.
5. Your consent choice in localStorage
On your first visit a notice asks what the site may keep in your browser. Your answer is saved in your browser’s localStorage, a small storage area on your own device, under one single key:
venizeanwaterinform.consent- A short record with the fields
necessary(alwaystrue),preferences(trueorfalse),version(the version of the notice, currently1) andtimestamp(the date and time of your choice). It is strictly necessary: without it the notice would reappear on every page. lang, a field inside the same record- Stored only if you allow Preferences. It holds
"en"or"it", the language you last picked with the EN | IT switch, so that the bilingual error page can show that language first. If Preferences is off, the field is not stored, and switching Preferences off removes it.
This information stays on your device. It is not sent to our server or to anyone else, and it is not used to recognise you. It has no expiry date and remains until you change your choice or clear the site data in your browser. If your browser blocks localStorage, your choice is held only in memory for the page you are viewing, and the notice appears again on the next page.
Legal basis. Storing the strictly necessary record does not require consent, because it is needed to provide the consent function you are using (Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC and the national laws implementing it); to the extent that it involves personal data at all, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR applies. The language preference is stored only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time with the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. The cookie policy describes the notice and the stored data in more detail.
6. Contacting us by email
You can write to info@venizeanwaterinform.online or use the form on the contact page. The form does not send anything by itself: it opens your own email program with a message addressed to us, and you decide whether to send it. Nothing you type into the form is stored on or transmitted to this website.
When you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, the content of your message and the technical data that comes with every email, such as the date and time it was sent. We use this information only to read and answer your message, for example to check and make a correction you suggest.
Legal basis. Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in answering messages sent to us. If your message concerns an agreement with us, such as permission to reuse our texts, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. If you are exercising your rights under the GDPR, Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR, because we are legally obliged to respond and to document our response.
Retention. We delete correspondence once the matter is closed and no follow-up is expected, at the latest one year after our last exchange, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep it longer.
Please do not include sensitive information, such as health data or copies of identity documents, in your messages. We do not need it.
7. Recipients and processors
We do not sell, rent or share personal data. It reaches other parties only where this is technically necessary or legally required:
- Hosting provider. The company that runs our web server receives the log data described in section 3 when it delivers our pages. It acts on our behalf as a processor within the meaning of Art. 28 GDPR and may not use the data for its own purposes.
- Email provider. Messages you send us are stored by the provider that hosts our mailbox, which also acts as our processor.
- Authorities. Public authorities or courts, but only where we are legally obliged to disclose data, for example on the basis of a court order.
8. International transfers
We do not intend to transfer personal data to countries outside the European Union or the European Economic Area. Should a service provider ever process data outside this area, we will make sure that this happens only where an adequate level of protection is guaranteed, on the basis of an adequacy decision of the European Commission or of the standard contractual clauses it has adopted (Art. 44–46 GDPR).
9. How long we keep data
- Server log files: a short period, normally a few weeks at most (section 3).
- Emails: until the matter is closed, at the latest one year after our last exchange, unless a legal obligation requires longer (section 6).
- Consent record in your browser: until you change it or delete it. We never receive it (section 5).
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right:
- of access: to know whether we process data about you and to receive a copy of it (Art. 15);
- to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data (Art. 16);
- to erasure of your data (Art. 17);
- to restriction of processing (Art. 18);
- to data portability: to receive data you have provided in a structured, commonly used format (Art. 20);
- to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21);
- to withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal (Art. 7(3)); for the language preference you can do this yourself through “Cookie settings” in the footer;
- to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77), in particular in the EU member state where you live, where you work or where the alleged infringement took place. In Italy, the authority is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
To exercise your rights, write to info@venizeanwaterinform.online. We may ask for information to confirm your identity before we act on a request. Please note that we usually cannot link server log entries to a person, because we keep no names or accounts; if you want us to check log data, tell us the IP address you used and the approximate time of your visit.
11. No automated decisions, no obligation to provide data
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. You are under no obligation to give us any personal data: every page can be read without it. If you choose not to email us, the only consequence is that we cannot reply to you.
12. Security
When the site is served over https, all data travelling between your browser and our server is encrypted with TLS; most browsers show a padlock or a similar symbol in the address bar. The site has no logins, no stored form data and no visitor database, which leaves very little that could be misused. Ordinary email is a different matter: it is not always encrypted from end to end, so please leave sensitive details out of your messages.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if the website or the law changes, for example if we ever add a feature that processes personal data. The current version is always published on this page, with its date at the top. Where a change affects consent you have given, we will ask you again.
